SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central’s Madison Little will compete for her first state title at 110 pounds, while five other Golden Eagle grapplers will vie for podium spots after Friday’s competition at the state girls’ wrestling tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Little, who was third at 100 pounds last season, earned her way into the finals with a 4-1 decision over Gracie Peters Friday.

Central will also have three girls vying for a fifth place spot when action resumes this morning. That group includes Rakyrah Wallace (140), Lin Paw Jone (155) and Lilly Nelson (170). All three wrestlers had to come through the wrestlebacks after falling in the semifinals.

Elsewhere Paisley Stewart (100) and Jasmine Maas (115) will be in the seventh place matches.

“Like always, some ups and some downs,” said Central coach Jake Flakus. “Six state placewinners is something to be proud of. We hope to finish the third day strong.”

Central moved up one spot in the team standings to seventh place. The Golden Eagles are a half-point ahead of Lemmon and one full point back of Rapid City Central in sixth. Central is also just three points behind the fourth place team of Bon Homme-Scotland-Avon.

Two other area wrestlers advance to today’s championship matches. Defending state champion Liza Krueger of Groton will compete for the title at 105, while Cateri Yellow Hawk of Sully Buttes will compete in the finals at 130 pounds.
