BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Central made relatively quick work of its final regular season dual of the year, defeating Brookings 54-19 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference girls’ wrestling contest Thursday night in Brookings.

The Golden Eagles received six wins via forfeit and split another half-dozen with the host Bobcats, giving Central more than enough room to claim the victory.

“Quick night with only six matches, but they wrestled hard,” said Central coach Jake Flakus. “Good team effort for a win over Brookings.”

Jasmine Maas (115 pounds), Lin Paw Jone (155) and Meleane Mounga (190) each earned a victory at their respective weight classes for the Golden Eagles. All three wrestlers won via pin.

“At this point in the year, when we do lose individual matches, we try to have a short memory and focus on our next competition,” Flakus said.

Central will look to do just that as they are back in action today at the Yankton Invitational. The tournament will serve as the Golden Eagles’ final chance to compete ahead of the Eastern South Dakota Conference tournament set for Feb. 12.
