A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Oct. 2-8: Last year on Oct. 5, 2021: The Northwestern volleyball team gave coach Nora Groft her 600th career win (vs. 75 losses). All total as a head coach, assistant and player, Groft has helped Northwestern to 12 state titles, 16 state championship matches and 19 state appearances. 10 years ago on Oct. 5, 2012: Terry Dosch of Aberdeen Roncalli became the 14th high school football coach in South Dakota history to win 200 career games. 20 years ago on Oct. 4, 2002: Long-time University of South Dakota track coach Dan Lennon died in Mesa, AZ. The 95-year-old Vermillion native was the USD track coach from 1949-75. Lennon, a 1935 USD graduate, was an all-North Central Conference guard in football. 30 years ago on Oct. 8, 1992: The Roncalli football team is doing it all this season.
