WARNER – Warner set the tone early, finished strong late and grabbed a non-conference volley victory over Aberdeen Roncalli Tuesday night.
The top-rated Class B Monarchs improved to 20-2 on the season with a 25-8, 25-20, 25-8 win.
“They are very solid,” said Roncalli coach Mandy Smid. “Matches like tonight are where growth happens. When you’re pushed to the point of error like we were tonight, a lot can be learned about a team and it’s character.”
Warner dominated the first and third sets, but the Cavaliers held their own in the middle set.
“Our girls competed hard,” Smid said, “especially in set two.”
Lauren Marcuson topped a balanced Warner attack with 11 kills. Kyleigh Schopp followed with 10 and Kyra Marcuson added nine as the Monarchs racked up 53 kills in all. Kyra Marcuson added three aces. Ava Nilsson finished with 35 set assists.
Roncalli received seven kills from Ella Hanson and four from Ava Hanson.
