WATERTOWN – There were plenty of positives for Aberdeen Central Monday night, but the final result was a four-set setback to Watertown.

The Arrows turned back Central 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16 in the Eastern South Dakota Conference volleyball match.

“I thought our defense played really hard tonight. There were a lot of aspects of our game that were quite good,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel. “We only missed two serves and kept them out of system a lot. Our kill efficiency was pretty good, 45 kills and only 15 errors. They made a few more plays down the stretch, and that was the difference in the game.”

After the Golden Eagles dropped the opening set, they owned a late one-point lead in the second set, but were not able to level the match.

Central then appeared to be in trouble in the third set, trailing 21-18 before reeling off six straight points to take control. However, the Arrows scored six unanswered points of their own in the fourth set to pull away and secure the match.

“Our setters made some really good decisions,” Bindenagel said. “We have to find a way to stop some runs when we’re in serve receive.”

Lauryn Burckhard topped Central with 19 kills, followed by Kyley Wirebaugh with 10.
