BRITTON – Milbank Area claimed both team championships during the Northeast Conference track and field meet Thursday, while Aberdeen Roncalli’s Morgan Fiedler and Milbank Area’s Bennett Schwenn both won four individual events.

The Bulldogs scored 198 points to win the boys’ title. Webster was second and Roncalli was third. Milbank Area finished with 178.5 points to capture the girls’ crown. Roncalli was runner-up.

“We had a good day overall and are grateful for the day and the weather,” said Roncalli coach Mark Stone. “The weather held out during the course of the meet.”

Fiedler won the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump and triple jump, marking the third time in the senior’s career that she has won four individual events at a meet.

Schwenn won the identical four open events in the boys’ division.

Stone pointed out the performances of the Roncalli throwers on the day.

“We had several throwers that had a good day and set some personal best performances,” Stone said. “Two seniors, Carson Helms and Sophia Madsen, both had great days in the throws today.”

Ella Ulmer won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and was also second in the 100-meter hurdles to lead a strong showing by the Cavaliers in that event.

“Our hurdlers had a successful day as well,” Stone said, “led by Ella Ulmer on the girls’ team and a group of young guys who had a good day in both the 110 and 300s.”

Those young guys were Parker Grieben and Kaden Larson.

Milbank Area’s Ashlynn Batchelor won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, while Hamlin’s Gracelyn Leiseth won the shot put and discus.

Roncalli will be back in Britton on Thursday for the Region 1B meet.
