WATERTOWN – Hamlin won the boys’ title while Castlewood claimed the girls’ crown during the Region 1B Golf Tournament Monday at Cattail Crossing in Watertown.
Sam Hansen of Great Plains Lutheran took medalist honors on the boys’ side with a 75, five strokes better than Hamlin’s Carson Pedersen. Jacob Pereboom of Webster finished fourth.
Clark-Willow Lake’s Brynn Roehrich was the girls’ medalist with an 86. Darby Koenecke of Deuel was runner-up with a 91.
Aberdeen Christian did not field a complete boys’ team. The Knights were led by Ellis Russell who finished 29th with a 106. Micah Leslie shot a 149.
“I brought two golfers today so no chance to have results as a team, unfortunately. However, there’s still a lot to take away,” said Christian coach Tyler Pridey. “Altough it was tough to get them ready for tournament golf due to weather and limited practice time, I thought Ellis and Micah handled themselves well.”
The tournament capped the season for the young Knights and also the first year at the helm for Pridey.
“I think I may have learned more from coaching them than they did from me,” Pridey said.
