REDFIELD – Carly Guthmiller of Groton earned medalist honors while Mobridge-Pollock won the team title during the Groton Invitational which was played at Fisher Grove near Redfield on Tuesday.

The event was scheduled for Monday in Groton, but had to be moved due to water on the course at Olive Grove.

Mobridge-Pollock edged Aberdeen Roncalli by four strokes for the team championship.

Guthmilled topped a tight field for individual honors with a 95. Cadee Peltier of Mobridge-Pollock was second with a 96. Roncalli grabbed the next three places with Grace Seyer third with a 97, Margaret Anderson fourth with a 98, and Claire Crawford fifth with a 99.

“Margaret broke 100 for the first time, so that was exciting. Claire and Grace both dropped their scores from Redfield two weeks ago by 8-10 strokes,” said Roncalli coach Kerry Brandenburger. “Anytime you improve, it’s always a good day.”

Brandenburger talked about the difficulty of playing Fisher Grove.

“It would seem to be an easier course,” Brandenburger said, “but it does have a lot, and I mean a lot, of trees and out of bounds, so it’s a tricky little course.”

The Cavaliers are scheduled to compete in a meet in Madison on Thursday, weather permitting.

Brandenburger said it will be beneficial to play the same course that the upcoming regional tournament will be played on.

“Madison is a very tough course,” Brandenburger said. “We look forward to learning more about ourselves.”
