A group of Northeast Conference athletes top multiple events among this week’s Class A track and field leaders.
Clark-Willow Lake’s Tyler O’Neill has the top time in the 800-meter run, while teammate Avery Nichols is seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus. The Cyclones also have the best time in the 1,600-meter relay. O’Neill runs on that squad along with Jack Helkenn, Brady Jordan and Trey Huber.
Milbank Area, led by Bennett Schwenn, is represented in 10 boys’ events. Schwenn is fifth in the 100-meter dash, third in the 200, second in the long jump and is a member of the top 400-meter relay squad.
Nick Batchelor is second in the 3,200-meter run and has the third best time in the 1,600-meter run. Max Lightfield has the sixth best time in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
The Bulldogs are also first in the 400 relay, third in the 1,600, fourth in the 3,200 relay and sixth in the medley.
Other NEC athletes among the Class A boys leaders include Webster’s Tayne Dunse who is third in the 300 hurdles, Drew Reetz who is second in the pole, Jaiden McCreary who is sixth in the pole vault, and Jaydon Keller who is tied for seventh in the triple jump. Groton is seventh in the 400-meter relay while Webster is fifth in the medley.
Webster has three girls among the Class A pole vault leaders. Emily Richie and Erin Case are tied for fourth, and Annie Witt is tied for eighth. Webster’s Ella Hegg is fifth in the javelin.
Katie Rozell of Redfield is tied for seventh in the high jump, while Milbank Area has two relays teams among the top eight, the 1,600 meter squad is fourth and the 3,200 is fifth.
