Aberdeen Central could not quite get over the hump Tuesday night.
The Golden Eagles overcame a two-set deficit and led in the fifth set before finally succumbing to Sioux Falls Roosevelt 28-26, 25-15, 21-25, 19-25, 15-10 in non-conference volleyball action at Golden Eagles Arena.
“It was really a hard fought match from our kids,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel.
The Eagles almost grabbed the opening set and soon found themselves with in a difficult spot after dropping the second.
However, Central rebounded to win the next two sets to draw even and then jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the fifth before the Rough Riders took control for good.
“I was very pleased with how our kids just kept battling after Roosevelt took the first two sets,” Bindenagel said.
Kiana Mounga had 14 kills and Grace Kuch 13 to power the Eagles. Abby Berry added 30 set assists despite missing half of the second set with a bloody nose. Sydney Evans led the squad with 30 digs.

The contest marked the final home match for seniors Mounga, Berry, Karly Wellman and Meghan Mork.
“We’ve got a great group of seniors. They’ve done a nice job of showing our younger kids what it means to be a great teammate,” Bindenagel said. “They work hard and are so coachable. They will certainly be missed.”
The Eagles, 12-12 on the year, close out the regular season at Sioux Falls Jefferson on Thursday. The Cavaliers defeated fourth-rated Pierre on Tuesday after almost beating top-rated Sioux Washington last week.
“Thursday will be tough,” Bindenagel said. “Jefferson is playing well.”
Hitting: Aberdeen Central 42 kills (Kiana Mounga 14, Grace Kuch 13, Madi Struble 5, Karly Wellman 5).
