Area athletes earn All-State football honors

A variety of players from seven different classes were named to their respective all-state football teams as selected by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.

Of the 41 players in the area, all but seven are seniors

Here is a look at each of the players that were selected. There were no area players that competed in Class 11AAA.

CLASS 11AAA

CLASS 11AA

Aberdeen Central had five players named to the Class 11AA all-state team.

The are seniors Alec Voegele at tight end, Brady Rohrbach on the offensive line, Sam Rohlfs at athlete, and Parker Bauer at defensive back. Junior running back Karson Carda also earned all-state status.

CLASS 11A

State runner-up Milbank Area placed five members on the Class 11A all-state squad, all of them seniors.

Selected were Marshall Voeltz at running back, Jay Rufer on the offensiveline, Connor Bender at lineback, Bennett Schwenn at defensive back, and Karson Weber on special teams.

CLASS 11B

Aberdeen Roncalli had two members make the Class 11B all-state unit.

Senior Matthew Martinez was chosen at defensive back, and Junior Jackson Isakson was a special teams selection.

Honorable mention honors went to senior Kaden Kurtz of Groton, and senior Jaydon Keller of Webster.

CLASS 9AA

Zach Geditz was picked on the offensive line, while Luke Peterson was chosen at linebacker.

Honorable mention selections include seniors Ty Kadlec and Carson Gohl of Ipswich, senior Vincent Petrich of Leola-Frederick, and Senior Xander Sheehan and junior Luke Fraser, both of Hamlin.

CLASS 9A

State runner-up Herreid-Selby Area was represented by five members on the Class 9A all-state team.

Junior Tray Hettick was selected at quarterback and junior Brenden Begeman was chosen at running back. Seniors on the squad include Chance Gregg on the offensive line, and Trey Sayler and Trevor Sayler at linebacker.

Other all-state selections include senior Dawson Hanson of Warner at linebacker, and senior Aidan Frederickson of Britton-Hecla on special teams.

Among those on honorable mention include junior BoDell Davidson of Britton-Hecla.

CLASS 9B

State runner-up Potter County had four seniors picked to the Class 9B all-state unit.

Battlers on the team include Grant Luikens at quarterback, Drake Bassett at wide receiver, Colt Wieseler on the defensive line, and Cooper Logan at linebacker.

Faulkton had three individuals named to the honor squad. They are seniors Hunter Niederbaumer on the defensive line, Simon Bowar at linebacker, and Parker Geditz at defensive back.

Other area players on the all-state team include a pair of Hitchcock-Tulare players, sophomore Erik Salmen at running back, and senior Kyle Hamilton at linebacker. Senior Ben Gustafson of Langford Area is a special teams selection.

Among the honorable mention picks are senior Jack Boomsma of Hitchcock-Tulare, and senior Alex Tanner of Potter County.
