MILBANK – Kelsey Heath won her third straight golf tournament in eight days, capturing the POET Invitational Thursday at Whetstone Creek Golf Course. Heath fired an 82 to help lead Sisseton to the team title as well.
Sisseton edged Sioux Valley by three strokes.
Carly Guthmiller of Groton was third with an 88.
Claire Crawford led Aberdeen Roncalli with a 97, good for seventh place. The Cavaliers were fourth in team points.
“Milbank is a very big course. A golfer can find lots of trouble in Milbank,” said Roncalli coach Kerry Brandenburger. “NEC conference golf is at Milbank next Monday so I felt today was a ‘get to know the course’ as my golfers have never played the Milbank course before. I wanted them to work on some course and club management today.”
Roncalli’s Margaret Anderson finished with a 102 and Ava Danielson with a 115.
Brandenburger was encouraged by all her players during the meet.
“I see scores dropping a bit and right in time for our conference and region meet. Obviously the girls’ goal is to all make it to the state golf tournament. That is a great goal to have. But keeping each meet, each hole, and each shot into perspective is just as important,” Brandenburger said. “They continue to learn each day. Now we have to take that newly found knowledge and start putting it into action.”
