SIOUX FALLS – Fifth-rated Sioux Falls Washington used a late-match rally to secure a four-set win over Aberdeen Central Tuesday night.

The Golden Eagles won the opening set, and appeared to be on the verge of taking the fourth set before dropping the non-conference volleyball match 23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-22.

“Washington has some very talented hitters. When we got our serves into the gaps, they really had to scramble and couldn’t run their offense,” said Central coach Jackie Bindenagel. “When they were in system, we struggled to slow them down.”

The Golden Eagles had leads of 18-14 and 20-17 in the fourth set before SFW battled back. The Warriors eventually pulled away from a 21-21 tie by scoring four of the last five points in the match.

“The kids played really hard tonight and dug in defensively,” Bindenagel said. “We got some great touches at the net, and had four kids with double-digit digs, but it just wasn’t quite enough.”

Kyley Wirebaugh and Alivia Miller each had 11 kills to lead the Central hitting attack. Kalli Huff led the team’s defense with 19 digs, and Miller followed with 15. Lauryn Burckhard and Julia Malsam contributed 13 and 11, respectively.
