MOBRIDGE – Aberdeen Roncalli pieced together lengthy scoring runs to produce a road volleyball win Tuesday night.

The Cavaliers turned back Mobridge-Pollock 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 in the non-conference victory.

Roncalli scored four unanswered points late in both the second and third sets, and then reeled off 12 straight points in the fourth to erase a 9-8 deficit and take a commanding 20-9 advantage.

“We were extremely off in several aspects tonight when it came to our serve receive, hitting and defense, but the girls powered through it,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware. “Mobridge-Pollock is a very focused and young team, so we knew we would have to get them out of system and honestly create chaos. We targeted the open areas in the camp and spot 1 quite a bit.”

Grace Cogley topped Roncalli’s service effort with five aces.

The Cavaliers featured a balanced hitting attack led by Jillian Ellwein with 11 kills. Cogley followed with 10, while Karsyn Davis and Gabby Thomas each contributed seven.

“We told the girls it was an ugly win, but a win is a win,” Ware said, “and we will work on the things and areas needed, and be ready for Faulkton next week.”

The Cavaliers, 17-5 on the season, travel to Faulkton on Monday, before hosting Milbank on Tuesday.
