MILBANK – Aberdeen Roncalli had precious few answers while Milbank had an abundance Friday night, as the Bulldogs rolled to a 41-0 victory over the Cavaliers Friday night in a Northeast Conference football clash.
Milbank had three first-quarter scores, two more in the second quarter and kicked off the running clock with a mid-third quarter score. And that was on offense.
The Bulldogs’ defense also forced the Cavaliers into three turnovers and consistently kept Roncalli in long conversion down situations.
“We spotted them over 20 points in the first six minutes of the game and then were trying to dig ourselves out of a hole the rest of the game,” said Roncalli coach Billy Young.
Bennett Hunt bookended the first half with a pair of long scoring runs of 20+ yards. Sam Rick scored twice inside of two minutes, first on a 30-yard long scamper, then again on an 18-yard pass from Lincoln Holscher.
Holscher also kept the ball on a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter, then found Liam Street for an 8-yard strike in the third quarter that proved to be the game’s final score.
“They didn’t do anything we weren’t expecting,” Young said. “We just physically didn’t get it done. We made a lot of mistakes, some physical, some mental.”
Milbank will head to Sioux Falls to face Sioux Falls Christian next Friday, while Roncalli is home to face Groton in the regular season finale.
“We know what we’re capable of doing, we just have to do it consistently,” Young said.
