Aberdeen Christian served up its ninth victory of the season Tuesday night, racking up 15 kills in a 25-8, 25-19, 25-10 win over Wilmot.

The Knights controlled the non-conference volleyball match from the beginning, using strong serving and offensive execution at the Christian School Gym.

“I thought we put a lot of pressure on them with our serve,” said Christian coach Sally Stoebner. “I also thought we took advantage of free balls and any sorts of tips or rolls.”

Arianna Johnson led the Knights offensively with 20 kills, while also adding five aces.

“We did well staying organized, and setting the ball up and killing it,” Johnson said. “Serving is tough, because it doesn’t really matter where the defense is, you just have to get the ball in and that is something we work on a lot.”

Johnson’s performance helped provide momentum for the Knights throughout the match.

“It feels great to get those kills,” Johnson said. “It brings momentum for the team. It’s a good accomplishment and I try to aim for it every game.”

The match also featured a special milestone for senior Jolie Fogarty, who reached 1,000 career digs.

Stoebner praised Fogarty for the defensive work she has provided for the Knights, particularly in the back row.

“Jolie is an awesome kid. She has always been a good hitter, but I think she really stepped into her role of being a great defensive player in the back row, which gets overlooked if you aren’t in a libero jersey,” Stoebner said. “She leads us in passing stats and digs most games.”

Fogarty said she did not realize she was approaching the milestone until the celebration took place.

“It was awesome. I had no idea I was close,” Fogarty said. “I was going to ask how close I was, but I never got to it, and I was confused why everyone was cheering so loud. Then I saw the sign.”

Fogarty, who finished with two aces, four kills and eight digs, also pointed to the team’s serving as an important part of its preparation moving forward.

“Serving is something we always look to do good in and we work on it almost every day,” Fogarty said.

Reagan Jett contributed five kills, and Payton Skarin added four aces.

With the win over Wilmot behind them, the Knights will now turn their attention to a pair of Lake Region Conference foes.

“We have some really good matches coming up with Faulkton and Northwestern,” Stoebner said. “I am really excited for those and hopefully we go out and do what we do.”

The Knights, 9-4 on the season, will host Faulkton on Thursday before bringing in Northwestern next Tuesday.

“It feels really good to get the win,” Fogarty said following her team’s latest win, “and we are really trying to prepare for our next two games against Faulkton and Northwestern.”
