SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Roncalli was short a couple of players, but three members of the Cavaliers made their presence felt in a pair of tennis duals on Saturday. Roncalli fell to Pierre 8-1 and came up just short against Lennox, dropping a 5-4 decision.

“For a weekend as short handed as we were, we absolutely cannot complain,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan. “Every time we stepped on the court we spotted our opponents three matches. For us to take Lennox to 4-5 is pretty good.”

Roncalli received a win from Caleb Stoks against Pierre at flight four singles, and lost a tight match at third flight where Linus Johnson fell in a tiebreaker and a super-tiebreaker.

“Pierre was really solid up and down the lineup,” Dignan said. “All those guys had serves, and I thought we did a great job on serve returns today.”

Stoks, Johnson, and Liam Voehl then combined for four victories against Lennox.

Voehl won 10-7 in a super tiebreaker at fight two and Stoks pulled out two tight sets at flight three. The duo teamed up for a second flight doubles victory, 10-5 in a super.

“I say it every day, but our two doubles played extremely well both as doubles and in their singles, respectively,” Dignan said. “They each had a couple of marathons, and I thought they did really well at blocking out the noise and pressure, and just playing the points out.”

Roncalli will face Aberdeen Central at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Holgate Courts.
