Second inning powers Sturgis past Central in softball win

STURGIS – Sturgis exploded for 13 runs in the second inning to fuel a 21-4 non-conference softball victory over Aberdeen Central on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Jovee Waldo led off the game with double and scored on a single by Alivia Roettele. Central added another run when Sydney Hoag singled in Roettele.

However, the hosts tied the time in the bottom of the first, and the had seven hits and seven walks in their big second inning. Brinley Heikes hit a three-run home run in the frame.

Central scored two more times in the third inning. Waldo got hit by a pitch and scored on a error. Jayla Breaw plated the team’s final run on a passed ball.

The Spartans, who received two hits apiece from five different players, then scored six more runs in the bottom of the third, three coming in on a home run by Sydney Andrzejewski which ended the game.
