BRANDON – The Aberdeen Cougars offense closed out the regular season with a flurry, outscoring Brandon Valley 9-3 in a boys’ hockey victory on Saturday afternoon.

The contest marked the third time in the past week that the Cougars had scored nine times in a single game.

“Good way to end the regular season,” said Aberdeen coach Dana Myhre. “We are playing well right now and moving the puck well, and putting it into a better spot. Hopefully we can keep this going into state.”

The Cougars accomplished their latest scoring barrage in just two periods.

After falling behind 1-0 in the opening period, Aberdeen exploded for five goals in the second period. Jaxson Danielson had a pair of goals in the stanza, while Carter Vilhauer, Paxton Dallmann, and Logan Fischbach each found the back of the net once.

Leading 5-3 after two, the Cougars then tacked on four more goals in the final period, as Vilhauer scored twice and Danielson once to complete their hat tricks. Trayke Roehrich also scored for Aberdeen.

The Cougars owned a 50-13 advantage in shots on goal.

Aberdeen is now off until the state tournament in two weeks. The Cougars will face Sioux Falls East in the opening round.
