WATERTOWN – The Aberdeen Cougars jumped out to a two-goal lead and never trailed on the way to a 5-3 boys’ hockey win over the Watertown Lakers on Friday night.
Trayke Roehrich scored both goals in the opening period for the Cougars. Paxton Dallmann assisted on both goals.
Twice the Lakers pulled to within a goal, but Wheeler Malsam pushed the margin back to two with a second period goal, and Brady Oswald extended the lead in the third period.
Carter Vilhauer, who had a pair of assists, capped the Aberdeen scoring midway through the third period.
“It was a good win. We played pretty good for the most part,” said Cougars coach Dana Myhre. “Got a little sloppy in the second period.”
Andrew Weisenburger had 22 saves in goal for Aberdeen, which outshot the Lakers 34-25.
“Way too many penalties. We have to do better in that area,” Myhre said. “All in all a good win that we needed.”
