Northern men wrap up regular season with win over Minot

MINOT, N.D. – The Northern State men closed out its regular season on a positive note with a 72-62 win over Minot State Saturday evening. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference basketball victory helped the Wolves to secure the seventh seed in the upcoming NSIC Tournament.

Joshua Book made the first shot of the game nearly three minutes in and the Wolves held that lead for the entirety of the game. They outscored the Beavers 36-28 in the first half, and 40-34 in the second half.

It was a balanced scoring attack for NSU as Book and Simon Akena finished with 16 points apiece. Book shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe, and Akena was 3-for-4 from the 3-point line. Book also tallied eight assists on the night.

Marshawn Smith contributed 14 points off the bench, with James Glenn adding 11, nine of which came from beyond the arc. Tobi Obiora provided nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

NSU will host Minnesota State Moorhead on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Wachs Arena in the opening round of the NSIC tourney. In two games this season against the Dragons, the Wolves won both contests by a combined 38 points.
