BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Central rode out a hot start to a 46-24 Eastern South Dakota Conference victory over Brookings Thursday night in the Golden Eagles’ final regular-season boys’ wrestling dual of the year.

The Golden Eagles won seven of the first 10 matches contested, then capped the night with Paxton Ewing’s win by fall.

“Good win,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “We capped off a good regular season. Went in and took care of business the way we needed to.”

Central led 40-9 following Owen Ward’s major decision win at 190 pounds. Brookings then won the next three matches before Ewing capped the night with his second-period pin.

Esten Foss (120) got the Golden Eagles started with a win by fall at 120 pounds. Central also got wins from Jude Sumner (144), Porter Lozenski (150), Ridley Waldo (157) and Grayden Timm (175).

“It would have been nice to get some of those close matches, but that’s the way it goes,” Bowden said.

Thursday’s win also gives the Golden Eagles at least a share of the ESD crown for the third straight season, Bowden said. Central lost just one conference dual.

“We feel very good about that,” Bowden said. “We have a very tough conference. It’s hard to do it once, let alone three times in a row.”

Central will have the weekend off before competing in the state dual tournament next weekend.
