MITCHELL – Aberdeen Central used a run of eight straight victories in the latter half of the dual to secure a 56-23 boys’ wrestling win over Mitchell Tuesday afternoon in Eastern South Dakota Conference action.
“It’s good to go get a conference win,” said Central coach Donnie Bowden. “We had a few other kids in our lineup get a little more varsity experience.”
The Golden Eagles won every match from 138 pounds to 215 pounds with Will Allen and Hunter Herceg providing the end-cap victories to the run. In between, Jude Sumner (144), Porter Lozenski (150), Ridley Waldo (157) and Grayden Timm (175), and Owen Ward (190) notched pins and Cael Dreis claimed a forfeit.
“That’s where you hit the experience of our lineup,” Bowden said. “Guys who have been there, guys who know what to do.”
Earlier in the match, Paxton Ewing racked up a technical fall at 120 pounds, followed by Jackson Dargatz with a fall in just over a minute at 126.
Bowden said it was nice to see his kids focused on their matches coming out of the holiday moratorium.
“We had a very short time to prepare for this one,” he said. “As did Mitchell, but we got ready and got through it. Now it’s on to the next.”
Central will head to Webster this weekend for a tournament before hosting Huron next Tuesday.
