WATERTOWN – A trio of area wrestlers captured individual championships during the Watertown Invitational girls’ wrestling tournament on Friday.

Aberdeen Central’s Jasmin Maas, Groton’s Liza Krueger, and Ipswich’s Sophia Knittel each found their way to the top of the podium during the tourney. Central finished seventh as a team with Clark-Willow Lake seventh. Canton won the team crown.

Krueger won the 110-pound championship, Knittel captured the 135 title, and Maas topped the field at 115.

Central also received runner-up finishes from Rakyrah Wallace at 140 and Lilly Nelson at 170, and a third-place finish from Lin Paw Jone at 155 to lead a total of 10 Golden Eagles who placed at the tourney.

“I’m proud of the way my girls wrestled,” said Central coach Jake Flakus. “Jasmin Maas wrestled really well all the way to a first-place finish. Paisley Stewart placed in the varsity tournament as a seventh-grader.”

Central heads west next weekend for a pair of duals on Thursday before competing in the Rapid City Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
