A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6, 2025:
Last year on Nov. 30, 2024: The NFL is running national commercials for its “My Cleats, My Cause” campaign where its players raise money for their various causes. One of those commercials features the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and its Cheyenne River Youth Project that Green Bay tight end Tucker Kraft is promoting. Kraft, a Timber Lake and SDSU graduate, grew up on the Cheyenne River Reservation and is an honorary member of the Sioux Tribe.
10 years ago on Dec. 2, 2015: Aberdeen bowler Jackie Witlock notched her second career 300 game during league play at the Village Bowl.
20 years ago on Dec. 3, 2005: Betsy Bies of Yankton won the girls’ race in Portland (OR) at the second annual Nike Team Nationals cross country meet featuring the top 20 high school teams in the nation. Winning the first such girls’ race in 2004 was Yankton’s Ramsey Kavan.
30 years ago on Dec. 3, 1995: Jammie Coyle of Belle Fourche High School and Amanda Mikuska of Platte made the Argus Leader First Five All-Class Basketball Team. Both would go on to star at NSU.
40 years ago on Dec. 3, 1985: Sprint car driver Doug Wolfgang of Sioux Falls was named national driver of the year by the American Short Track Racing Congress. Wolfgang registered more than 50 wins this season, including 17 feature races in a row.
50 years ago on Dec. 2, 1975: Coach Jack Doyle’s USD men’s basketball team defeated Iowa State 79-75 in Ames (IA). With less than 10 minutes to play, Iowa State trailed USD 70-47. Senior Rick Nissen scored 32 for the Coyotes. It was the first win for the Coyotes in the series which started in 1947 and which the Cyclones lead 7-1.
