Aberdeen Central’s Jaxon Henley was selected to the Class 11AA all-state squad, while a group of Milbank players earned recognition on the Class 11A squad, announced by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association today.

Henley made the all-state squad as an offensive lineman.

At 6-foot-1 275 pounds, the senior was able to move people out on the line of scrimmage.

“Jaxon is what we look for in an offensive lineman, smart and physical,” said Central coach Justin Briese. “Loves to finish blocks down field. Has done a great job as a senior to hold himself and teammates accountable.”

Milbank had two all-state members, Carter Gloe on the offensive line, and Layton Osowski on special teams. Sam Rick and Braylan Bowsher were named honorable mention.

Gloe had 13 pancake blocks, 45 tackles, 28 solo stops, 17 assisted trackles, 3 sacks, 10 tackles for loss and a safety for the Bulldogs.

“Carter has been a 2-way starter for two years (injured his sophomore year) and has been our best lineman almost his entire his career,” said Milbank coach Mick Thompson. “He understands schemes, owns and corrects mistakes, and makes sure his teammates are lined up correctly.”

Osowski helped the Bulldogs gain field position with his punting. He averaged 35 yards per punt, put five inside the 20, and had a season-best 52 yard punt. He also had 45 tackles and 6 sacks on defense.

“Layten was an excellent punter for us and had some very important punts pinning opponents or flipping the field for us,” said Milbank coach Mick Thompson. “Layten has been a great tackler and used his length to cover the curl/flat for us. I believe he is one of the best LBs we have had here.”

Rick had 43 receptions for 792 yards and five touchdowns for the Bulldogs this past season.

“Sam has been our big play guy for the past two seasons. He is fast, athletic, and has great hands and body control,” said Milbank coach Mick Thompson. “He runs excellent routes and has been able to get open while being our best offensive weapon”

Browsher was a key member on both sides of the ball for Milbank. He played quarterback on offense and cornerback on defense where he had 25 tackles and 3 interception this past season.

“He has been a team leader year round for the past two years and been an integral part of the change in culture in our program,” said Bulldogs coach Mick Thompson. “Bray has developed into a great CB for us and has been assigned the other team’s number one wide receiver this season.”
