SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Roncalli’s season came to an end with numerous tight matches during the State A Tennis Tournament in Sioux Falls on Tuesday.
The Cavaliers won one match on the day and were close in several others.
“We had a lot of good matches today,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan. “We just didn’t get them to fall like we would have wanted.”
Molleigh Hofer had the one victory, defeating an opponent from St. Thomas at fifth flight singles.
“Molleigh pulled through against STM,” Dignan said. “She was up pretty good and let the girl back into a bit, but finished it out.”
Abby Andersen lost her semifinal match 10-5 in a super-tiebreaker in the semifinals at sixth flight singles, and then came up short in her last match to finish in fourth place.
“Abby lost a really hard-fought battle in the semis,” Dignan said, “and had nothing left in the tank for the third place match.”
Sydney Bohle and Gianna Cihak lost their consolation matches in singles.
“Sydney came out ready to roll, but burned up most of what she had in the first few games,” Dignan said.
The Cavaliers also lost their doubles match where Keira Rivett and Bohle also lost a close match.
“Our one doubles came out of the gate strong,” Dignan said, “and then Huron was able to get some momentum and ultimately won the match.”
Milbank was led by a pair of sixth place finishes by Jenna Korstjens at top flight singles, and Charlotte Swanson at fourth flight singles.
