WEBSTER – Aberdeen Roncalli placed three runners among the top nine finishers to win the girls’ team title during the Webster Invitational Cross Country Meet on Monday afternoon.

The Cavaliers scored 25 points to edge Clark-Willow Lake by three in the team standings.

“The Clark-Willow Lake girls run hard,” said Roncalli coach Casey Steele. “They seem like nice kids. They get after it, so I think it only makes our kids run harder.”

Kamryn Nesheim of Clark-Willow Lake won the girls’ individual race, with Roncalli’s Addison Cassady finishing runner-up. Hazel Kannegieter was eighth, and Taylor McComsey ninth for the Cavaliers.

“Hazel looked more like the Hazel of old. That was nice,” Steele said. “I think we can even pack ‘em in a little more tighter than what we did today, which is encouraging.”

Deuel won the boys’ team title. Kalen Ober of James Valley Christian was the top boys’ finisher with Caden Hourigan of Deuel in second.

Aberdeen Christian finished with a pair of top-25 finishes as Joseph Richards was 20th, and Andrew Schwab was 25th.

Steele was pleased with the way his members supported each other when they weren’t running.

“One of the things that’s so nice about the group of kids that we have is both the boys and girls are out there really supporting each other throughout the races. … I think that’s going to promote us dropping times throughout the season,” Steele said.

Roncalli hosts its own invitational on Thursday at Lee Park Golf Course. Action gets started at 11 a.m.
