A variety of area teams can be found in the Prep Media preseason football poll.

The list is topped by Sully Buttes, which is the top-rated team in Class 9B. The defending state champs received 11 of a possible 16 first-place votes. Runner-up Faulkton is rated third with one first-place vote.

Elsewhere, Class 9AA state champion Hamlin is rated second with five first-place votes, behind Elkton-Lake Benton which also received five first-place votes. In Class 9A, Wolsey-Wessington is rated third with two-first place votes, followed by Warner in fourth.

Teams in the receiving votes categories include Aberdeen Central in Class 11AA, Clark-Willow Lake, Mobridge-Pollock, and Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central in Class 11B, Leola-Frederick in Class 9AA, and Herreid-Selby Area and Hitchcock-Tulare in Class 9B.

Other top-rated teams include Brandon Valley and Sioux Falls Lincoln tied for first in Class 11AAA, Pierre in Class 11AA, Sioux Falls Christian in Class 11A, Winner in Class 11B, and Howard in Class 9A.
