A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Aug. 10-16, 2025:

Last year on Aug. 11, 2024: Northern State graduate Dakotah (Bullen) Lindwurm finished 12th in the women’s marathon at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Lindwurm, the top American finisher, was in third halfway through the race and was leading during mile 15. Lindwurm told “Runner’s World” leading the race “was pretty cool. And then, man, I mean, they closed hard.” Lindwurm finished in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 24 seconds. Dutch runner Sifan Hassan won in an Olympic record time of 2:22.55.

10 years ago on Aug. 16, 2015: The Freeman School Board unanimously voted to vacate the next two years of football for Freeman High School.

20 years ago on Aug. 14, 2005: The Sioux Falls Storm defeated the Sioux City Bandits 40-38 on an Adam Hicks’ 35-yard field goal on the final play of the game. It was the inaugural championship of the United Indoor Football league. Earlier this season, Sioux City had beaten the Storm three times, with all three games going down to the final play.

30 years ago on Aug. 12, 1995: Kalen DeBoer sparked Sisseton to an 11-4 win over Alexandria in the first round of the Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell. DeBoer, a pickup player from Milbank, had three hits and four RBIs.

40 years ago on Aug. 15, 1985: Sioux Falls 13-year-old twin brothers Chad and Brad Dubisar got holes-in-one 10 days apart. On Aug. 15 at the Brookings Country Club during the state junior tournament, Chad got his ace. On Aug. 25 at the Westward Ho Country Club in Sioux Falls, Brad got his ace.

50 years ago on Aug. 10, 1975: Aberdeen native George Amundson helped Houston defeat New Orleans 13-7 in NFL action. Amundson gained 17 yards rushing on five carries and caught a pass for four yards.
