Action promises to be fast and furious Friday night at Brown County Speedway.

The Sprint Cars will make their annual appearance at the local oval and will feature two different styles this weekend.

The MSTS and NOSA will combine forces for the show.

“It actually combines, the big 410s, is what most commonly is with them, but they do combine a lot of 360s with them, too,” said BCS track official Kent Arment, “so we get a pretty good car count for them.”

The car count will be a touch higher than Arment originally expected.

“I thought 20 would be pretty good, 22,” Arment said, “but talking to the promoter Sunday, he’s thinking 24-26.”

Sprint cars are known to fly around the track. The fastest time ever recorded at the track was set by a driver in a sprint car.

“They’re going to be quite a bit faster, the sprinters are,” Arment said. “They’re really light machines. … They’re weight is just incredibly light, (with) open 410 motors … They get with it, there’s no doubt there for sure.”

Last week Husset’s Speedway in Brandon featured a four-day special and one driver won the two biggest races and walked away with a total of $350,000.

While Friday’s show won’t feature that kind of money, it still has a solid payout with $3,000 to win the feature and $300 to start it.

“It’s a really good pay, honestly,” Arment said.

This week’s show will include action in Street Stock, Super Stock, Modified and Midwest Modified. There will be no Late Models on Friday.

Arment said Wednesday’s rain will not negatively impact the track and even a slight shower on Friday could be beneficial.

Arment recalled a conversation he had with sprint car drivers at a previous show at BCS.

“They like the moisture,” Arment said, “and they’re going to be hauling for sure, I’ll guarantee you.”

The sprint car show kicks off a big run of races at the local track with a Fourth of July special complete with fireworks next week, and then the two-day Andy Daly Special on July 11-12.

“It’s really our busy time,” Arment said. “We’ve got the Rumble right after that.”

Arment said there has been a lot of financial support for the Andy Daly show.

“That Andy Daly Special has really turned into a heckuva deal,” Arment said.

In addition to the regular classes, that weekend will also include a rare appearance by the Legends cars.

“We’re expected to get 50 of them,” Arment said.

While racing action will slow a bit during August with the Brown County Fair, it will finish with a bang with the final three shows including the track championships, the annual Big Buck Nationals, and the return of the Winter Nationals to conclude the season.

And it all begins on Friday when the sprint cars hit the high-banked oval.

Arment is looking forward to the program.

“It should be a helluva show,” Arment said. “They like it a little fast, so I think we’re going to put on a nice show.”
