A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of June 8-14 2025:

Last year on June 12-15, 2024: White River native and Midco Sports Network announcer Alex Heinert was part of the eight-person announcing team for the Nike Outdoor Nationals and USATF U20 Championships at legendary Hayward Field in Eugene, OR. That facility is home to the University of Oregon track and field teams, the USA Olympic Trials and other iconic meets. About 5,000 athletes from across the national competed. In South Dakota, Heinert works the Howard Wood Relays and state track meets.

10 years ago on June 11, 2015: Sam Good Shield, 16, is the starting second baseman on the Mobridge American Legion baseball squad. “She has a skill set that’s going to help my team win,” veteran manager Andy Shoe said. “She fits in so well with the rest of the team. Now she’s one of my leaders on the team. I don’t know if we would be anywhere close to the team we are without her.”

20 years ago on June 8, 2005: South Dakota’s Elite 15 winners for athletic ability, leadership, scholarship and community involvement include Chelsea Brandlee of Aberdeen Central, Jill Jorgenson of Hamlin, Jodi Fischbach of Northwestern and Ashley Newcomer of Sully Buttes. Only 15 prep girl athletes across the state are honored each year.

30 years ago on June 8, 1995: Rivals Pine Ridge and Red Cloud will join together to form a co-op wrestling and track program for the 1995-96 season.

40 years ago on June 14, 1985: Jon Peterson of Sioux Falls Aid Association for Lutherans stole seven bases in a 10-7 amateur baseball win over Lennox.

50 years ago on June 8, 1975: Leigh Dunker of Warner has now won horseshoe state titles in South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana.
