Aberdeen Roncalli carried the focus it had in a setback against Rapid City Stevens into a victory against Rapid City Central during tennis action on Friday at the NSU Courts.
The Cavaliers fell to Stevens 9-0, but bounced back for a 7-2 win over RCC.
“Stevens is a much more talented team than us. I was very pleased with our mindset and tenacity with which we played our matches,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. “We had a lot of good points and many deuce games. That level of focus was evidenced in our effort against Rapid City Central.”
While the Cavaliers won all but two matches against the Cobblers, Haskell was particularly pleased with his team’s quality of play.
“More than wins and losses, I’m happy when my girls go out and play their best tennis,” Haskell said. “Today we did that.”
Haskell pointed out the play of Katherine Kretchman at top flight singles, noting there is a lot of pressure playing at the top of the lineup.
“I was especially proud of her effort all season and she was rewarded today,” he said. “Her attitude and effort are always in the right spot. Good things will come for her if she keeps progressing like she has.”

The Cavaliers also received singles wins from River Haskell, Raley Haskell, Anna Mitzel and Keira Rivett, along with a pair of doubles victories.
Roncalli will be right back at it today competing in the annual Elliott Extravaganza. The Cavaliers are scheduled to face cross-town foe Aberdeen Central around 4:15 p.m. at the Holgate Courts.
