HURON – Aberdeen Central gave its top three runners a break and wrapped up its regular-season cross country schedule by competing in the Roger Loecker meet in Huron on Thursday afternoon.

“Definitely windy out there,” said Central coach Eric Pedersen, “but a good day to get some kids ready for state.”

Central decided to give Tate DeVries, Max Nelson, and Allie Novstrup, its top finishers in every meet so far this fall, a break to help them prepare for next week’s state meet in Rapid City.

“Didn’t end up racing Tate, Max, and Allie, which got some other kids to push up,” Pedersen said. “Khloe Cochran ran well once again. She’s coming on well at the end of her season, and Evie Novstrup not far behind was great to see.”

Cochran finished 10th and Novstrup was 14th for the Golden Eagles.

Pedersen pointed out the performance of Chloe Reich, who finished 20th in the girls’ race.

“A new addition up in the mix was Chloe Reich, an eighth grader who has been working really hard to find herself earning a spot on the varsity squad late,” Pedersen said. “I was very pleased with how she raced.”

The Central boys were led by Kyler Hannigan who was 15th, and Jaxon McPartland who finished 26th.

“On the boys side, a thin crew, but Kyler and Jaxon led the way for that group,” Pedersen said. “I do have to note Porter Bindenagel as well out of the JV race as he put out a really solid effort.”

The Golden Eagles will now set their sights on the state meet next weekend.

“Overall, pleased on a windy day,” Pedersen said. “Looking forward to heading out to Rapid next weekend.”
