SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central came up short in its final game of the regular season Thursday night, falling by a 1-0 count to O’Gorman in non-conference girls’ soccer action.

The Golden Eagles had won four straight coming into the contest, but were unable to fend off the host Knights in the finale.

O’Gorman’s lone goal came in the 18th minute of play on a Loretta Hillman score off a free kick. The two teams played to a draw after that, but it was enough to upend the Golden Eagles.

Central did get 10 shots off to the Knights’ eight, just could not get past the Knights’ defense.

“Tonight’s game didn’t go as planned,” said Central coach Kendra Hanley. “We played well, played with heart, but lacked the spark you typically see. They worked hard. We had our chances for goals, we just didn’t capitalize on any of them.”

Central will turn its attention to the Class AA playoffs, which begin Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will host an opponent on Tuesday at Brownell Activities Complex.

“We use this, learn from it, grow as athletes and work to become the best version of ourselves,” Hanley said.
