IPSWICH – The North Central boys and the Ipswich girls ran their way to individual and team championships during the Ipswich Invitational cross country meet on Saturday morning.
Drew Arbach of North Central and Isabella Galbraith of Ipswich topped the fields in their respective races.
Galbraith covered the distance in a meet record time of 18:47, breaking the old record set by Macy Heinz in 2016 by three seconds.
North Central’s Aaron Ingerson was runner-up as the Thunder won the boys’ team title.
Ipswich won the girls’ team crown with five runners among the top seven places. Jayla Stiles was third, Kalynn Bown finished fourth, Addison Galbraith was sixth, and Jenna Gisi took seventh.
Herreid-Selby Area’s Della Ernst was second with teammate Evelyn Shearer in fifth.
Aberdeen Christian had two of the top two six runners in the boys’ race as Joseph Richards finished fifth, right in front of teammate Andrew Schwab.
“The kids ran hard. We set some PRs today. Joseph and Andrew are really battling hard and running well, and all the runners keep improving each race,” said Knights coach Adam Franken. “We have a challenging week ahead of us and are looking forward to it.”
Clara Herreid of Christian was 23rd in the girls’ race.
