Aberdeen Roncalli showed some fight, but couldn’t find a footing against the defending State A champion Sioux Falls Christian in girls’ tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Holgate Courts.
The Chargers defeated the host Cavaliers by a 9-0 count, though Roncalli did not exactly go quietly.
Roncalli was blanked in just two flights in the match, one in singles play and the other in doubles.
“That’s a really good team we played today and we found out real quick why they are state champs over and over,” said Roncalli coach Ryan Bohle. “Very pleased with the fight and the heart we played with. We talked all week about not playing intimidated, and just going out and playing with a lot of heart and we did that today.”
Saturday’s match was a final tune-up ahead of the state tournament, Oct. 5-6 in Rapid City.
“Now we need to roll that effort over into a great week of practice before we head to the state tournament on Sunday,” Bohle said.
