REDFIELD – Aberdeen Roncalli made decisive work of Redfield in its first foray of the season into Northeast Conference volleyball action Thursday night. The Cavaliers defeated the host Pheasants 25-13, 25-11, 25-12 to move to 2-0 on the season.
Roncalli coach Leesa Ware credited her team’s ability to spread the action around as a key factor in the Cavaliers’ win.
“The girls played well tonight,” Ware said. “I don’t think I can name one player who completely stood out tonight, as it was definitely a team effort and well-rounded.”
While no player reached double digits in the kills column, Roncalli had a balanced attack at the net and a strong night at the service line.
Grace Cogley led the way with six kills and added a service ace. Jill Ellwein and Gabby Thomas had four kills apiece, while Thomas was one of two players with a pair of aces. Thomas also had two blocks and a handful of digs in an all-around effort. Elyana Roach finished with two aces and 20 assists.
“Our serve receive was strong tonight as well as our blockers getting up and getting some good blocks and touches on the ball,” Ware added.
Redfield was led by Gracie Boothe with three kills. Layla Hardie finished with a pair of service aces and five assists for the Pheasants.
The Cavaliers head to Miller on Tuesday before returning to Roncalli Gym to host Tiospa Zina next Thursday.
