Aberdeen Central’s Kim Zimmerman is one of five coaches who has been selected by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association (SDHSCA) Spring Sports Coaches of the Year, recognizing outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to student-athletes across South Dakota.

Zimmerman, who is the Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year, guided the Golden Eagles to their second straight Class AA state championship this past spring.

Each year, the SDHSCA honors coaches who exemplify excellence both on and off the field of play. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional leadership, fostered positive team cultures, and made lasting impacts on their athletes, schools, and communities. Their achievements extend beyond wins and championships, reflecting the values of sportsmanship, integrity, leadership, and mentorship that define educational athletics.

The 2026 SDHSCA Spring Sports Coaches of the Year are:

  • Girls Golf: Kim Zimmerman, Aberdeen Central
  • Boys Tennis: Tim Hedblom, Huron
  • Boys Track & Field: Jim Jarovski, Sioux Falls Lincoln
  • Girls Track and Field: Julie Preheim, Colman Eagan
  • Girls Softball: Paul Kuhlman, Avon

The coaches will be recognized at the SDHSCA Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 19, at 1 p.m. at the Mitchell High School Performing Arts Center. There is no RSVP required, the event is free to attend.
