YANKTON – Aberdeen Central won its play-in matches and qualified one doubles team for the semifinals at the Eastern South Dakota Conference Tennis Tournament during the opening day on Monday.

The third-flight doubles team of Josiah Grandpre and Grayson Rehder picked up a 10-6 win during a quarterfinal match.

“Great win by three doubles – big 50-50 win to get us some important points,” said Central coach Trent Kurtz. “Back and forth all match and then we took control late in the match, which is good to see them play their best with the match on the line.”

The Golden Eagles also won all of their play-in matches before having to go against top-seeded foes in the tourney.

“Proud of our kids for going 4-0 in the play-in matches,” Kurtz said. “Next match gets tough when you play the best one seeds, but they all got themselves in the tournament and gave themselves a chance to score points (Tuesday).”

The tournament concludes today.
