Castlewood, Redfield, Florence-Henry punch State B tickets

CASTLEWOOD – Top-seeded Castlewood held off Viborg-Hurley 8-7 in Class B SoDak 16 softball action on Tuesday.

Castlewood trailed 3-2 after the first inning. The Warriors got on the board with an RBI triple by Lilly Jacobson, and Sophia Kudrna followed with a sacrifice fly.

Castlewood tied the game in the second on Cydni Kudrna’s RBI double.

Viborg-Hurley regained the lead in the third inning with two runs and took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the fourth.

Castlewood responded with two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Sophia Kudrna produced a two-run single in the fourth, and Cydni Kudrna and Jacobson each drove in runs in the fifth.

Redfield 6, Baltic 5

BALTIC – Redfield overcame a 5-3 deficit to secure its first ever berth in the state tournament with a 6-5 win over sixth-seeded Baltic.

The Pheasants struck first, taking a 2-1 lead after two innings, but Baltic responded and carried a 5-3 edge heading into the fifth inning.

Redfield tied the game as one run scored on an error, and Ashlee Stroud doubled in Kylie Herman.

Kinley Smith, who finished with three hits, then produced what proved to be the game-winning hit in the sixth inning.

Freeman-Marion-Freeman Academy 1, Deuel 0

CLEAR LAKE – There will be a new State B champion this season after Freeman-Marion-Freeman Academy knocked off third-seeded Deuel 1-0.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when Claire Loofbourrow hit an RBI double to get Ariana Piehl across the plate.

Harley Ross allowed just one hit on the mound for FMFA.

Florence-Henry 4, Clark-Willow Lake 1

FLORENCE – The fourth-seeded Florence-Henry Falcons collected a 4-1 win over Clark-Willow Lake.

Florence-Henry jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Elizabeth Reiter drove in a run on a sacrifice.

The Falcons added another run in the third when Reiter delivered an RBI single.

Clark-Willow Lake got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Maia Miller hit a solo home run, but Florence-Henry responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, on Alayna Caulfield’s two-run single.

Lennox 10, Milbank 0

LENNOX – Lennox scored in every inning but one on the way to a 10-0 win over Milbank in Class A action.

Lennox got the scoring started in the second inning when Haley Hahn delivered a two-run double, and another run scored on a ground out.

Layci Eli padded the Lennox lead with a two-run hit in the third frame, and the Orioles tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning and two in the sixth for the final margin of difference.
