BROOKINGS – Aberdeen Roncalli continued their week against quality competition on Tuesday, One after facing Brandon Valley and O’Gorman, the Cavaliers fell to Mitchell 9-0 and Brookings 8-1.
“We have played a couple really solid AA teams in the last 48 hours,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan. “We played decent against Mitchell and didn’t give them too many points. We made them earn it. Against Brookings we really did play better than the scores indicate. We played solid tennis up and down the lineup today.”
Roncalli’s lone victory came at third flight singles where Linus Johnson scored a convincing 10-1 decision over his foe from Brookings.
“Linus got us our lone win and did so in dominant fashion,” Dignan said. “He played front to back his most sound tennis in a technical sense and won the mental aspect.”
The Cavaliers were close in many other matches, losing a tiebreaker at top flight doubles against Brookings, and falling 10-8 in three matches and 10-7 in two others.
“We had some leads in other matches that we just couldn’t capitalize on. The other teams were older and more experienced and that showed today,” Dignan said. “We know our time is coming in that sense. Overall, I feel there were more positives than negatives today, even if the scores didn’t work out in our favor.”
