RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Roncalli fell to Rapid City Stevens 9-0, but held its own in most of the flights during the season-opening tennis dual at the West River Invitational on Thursday.
“I’m proud of how we battled against Stevens,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan. “We played them pretty tough and made them earn the points.”
The Cavaliers won at least three games in six of the nine matches against Stevens and had a strong performance by Ezra Feickert at top flight singles despite not winning a game, according to Dignan.
“Ezra played especially good against a really quality opponent,” Dignan said.
Roncalli also got the doubles portion in during its dual against Rapid City Central, winning one of those matches.
The second flight team of Liam Voehl and Caleb Stoks claimed a 10-1 victory.
The remainder of that dual will be played this morning before the Cavaliers have two more duals this afternoon.
“Overall, we have a lot of new players who are just starting to figure out their games and how to best compete,” Dignan said. “It was a learning experience and one I hope we grow from.”
