MINOT, N.D. – Northern State overcame a 14-point deficit to collect a 72-63 women’s college basketball win over Minot State Saturday afternoon.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory wrapped up the seventh seed for the Wolves in the upcoming NSIC Tournament.
Minot jumped out to a 14-4 lead, eventually holding a 25-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
The Wolves picked it up with a 20-point second quarter, followed by a 23-point third quarter when Northern took the lead and it held it for most of the second half. It was sparked by a barrage of 3-pointers, one before the half and then three straight to start the third quarter.
Izzy Moore made three of those shots, one to end the first half, and then one to start the second half. At 9:04 in the third, Taylor Tool nailed a shot from beyond the arc as Northern took its first lead since the opening possession of the game. Moore then followed it up with another 3 to increase the NSU lead.
After the Beavers clawed back into the game, the Wolves defense held the hosts to just 10 points in the final quarter to help secure the win.
Moore finished the day with 37 points, including 6-for-10 from the 3-point line. Mackenzie Carrier was the only other NSU player in double digits with 10 points. Lily Klein had a team-leading 13 rebounds.
The Wolves will host Minnesota State Moorhead at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wachs Arena in the NSIC tourney. The Wolves split with the Dragons this year, losing by one on the road, before beating them by 20 points at home earlier this month.
