WEBSTER – Aberdeen Christian overcame a nine-point second-half deficit and picked up a 66-55 non-conference boys’ basketball win over Webster on Saturday afternoon.

“Credit Webster, they played well,” said Christian coach Matt Rohrbach. “It was super fun, the crowd was into it. They were hitting shots, and there for a little bit, we weren’t hitting shots, which is basketball.”

The Knights, who trailed 39-30 in the third quarter, were able to pull away from a tie game in the fourth quarter and walk away with a double-digit victory.

Rohrbach said even though the host Bearcats were able to put together a rally, the Knights never lost confidence in themselves.

“We talk about it all the time, we control what we can control,” Rohrbach said. “Today it wasn’t necessarily going in from the free-throw line or from the 3-point line, but toward the end of the third quarter, Jett (Johnson) hit a couple huge shots and the guys never felt like they were going to lose.”

Christian was led by Brooks Jett and Loyall Smith-Wade, who finished with 14 points apiece. Johnson contributed 11.

Webster, which lost three players to fouls, also got a 14-point effort from Jeron McCreary. Seth Lesnar added 11.

Christian improved to 12-2 overall and heads to Ipswich on Tuesday. Webster remains at home to face Sisseton on Monday.
