Central eighth, Roncalli ninth at Watertown Invitational

WATERTOWN – Two Aberdeen golf squads finished right next to each other in the team points during the Watertown Invitational Golf Tournament on Tuesday.

Aberdeen Central finished eighth in the team standings, with Roncalli in ninth, eight strokes behind the Golden Eagles.

Roncalli’s Harper Schnabel was the top area golfer, tied for 15th with a 77. Milbank’s Jonathan DeBoer was one stroke behind, tied for 18th.

Finn Anderson of Roncalli was just outside the top 25, shooting a 79 good for a tie for 26th.

“Tough day for us,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “First meet for the varsity in two weeks. Things to work on that is for sure.”

Central was led by Cole Brust who tied for 31st with a round of 80. Other Aberdeen golfers in the top 40 included Roncalli’s Jesse Hernandez who tied for 37th, and Central’s Jackson Ravellette and Easton Kludt, both tied for 40th.

Roncalli competes at the Sisseton Invitational on Thursday before heading to the Region 1A tourney on Monday in Madison.

“Just need to get better every day from now on, Murdy said.

Central competes in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Tournament Monday in Brandon.
