PIERRE – Aberdeen Roncalli was on the opposite ends of a tennis duals on Tuesday. The Cavaliers fell to Pierre 8-1, and blanked Rapid City Central 9-0.
Roncalli got off to a rough start against the Governors to start the day.
“Against Pierre we got down early and were able to take a few games,” said Roncalli coach Jonah Dignan.
Roncalli’s lone win came at flight six where Abby Andersen grabbed a 10-7 victory.
The flight two doubles team of Gianna Cihak and Molleigh Hofer lost a battle, falling 7-4 in a tiebreaker.
“Our two doubles played unbelievable today,” Dignan said. “They were able to finish points at the net and they played super long points.”
The Cavaliers then swept Rapid City Central, leading from start to finish in most matches.
“With Rapid City Central, we came out of the gate strong in almost every match,” Dignan said.
By far the closest match of that dual was at top flight singles, where Keira Rivett pulled out a 7-3 win in a tiebreaker.
“Keira was down 8-5 at point and didn’t give up and took the next four (games),” Dignan said. “Her girl battled back and took it to a tiebreak, but Keira really just settled down and took care of business.”
Roncalli off until hosting St. Thomas More at 10 a.m. Monday at the Northern State Courts.
