Braun finishes seventh at SDGA Amateur Championship

BROOKINGS – Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun took seventh place at the South Dakota Golf Association Amateur Championship at Brookings on Sunday.

Braun was tied for the lead midway through the final round, but fell a few spots on the last nine holes to finish with a 78 and a 54-hole total of 232.

Meanwhile, McKenzie Mages of Sioux Falls pulled away down the stretch to win the event by six strokes over the rest of the field. She shot the top round on Sunday with a 68 (including a 32 on her last nine holes) and finished with a three-day total of 222. Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink finished runner-up with a total 222, while Ericka Schneider of Brookings, who shot a 74 during the final round, was third with a 229.

Watertown’s Jake Olson won the Men’s Division with a nine-under-par total of 207 for 54 holes. Luke Honner of Sioux Falls was just one stroke off the pace, while Parker Edens of Brookings was third with a 209.
