MADISON – Finn Anderson earned medalist honors with teammate Harper Schnabel runner-up to lead Aberdeen Roncalli to the team championship during the Madison Invitational golf tournament on Thursday.

The Cavaliers finished with a team score of 317 to capture the team crown by two strokes over Sioux Falls Christian.

Anderson, who won the individual championship at the Sioux Valley Invitational on Monday before taking 31st at the West Central Early Bird on Tuesday, was back at it again. Anderson shot a 4-over-par 75 to edge Schnabel by one stroke. Jesse Hernandez finished ninth with an 81.

“We played well today. Madison is always a tough course,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “I’m happy Finn was able to get his game back and see some good results.”

Milbank’s Jonathan DeBoer was sixth with a 79. Roncalli’s Lucas Daggett took 22nd with an 85, and Sisseton’s Luke Nielsen was 24th with an 86.

The Cavaliers were able to pull out a tight race for the team championship.

“It was fun to watch the team battle when they didn’t have their ‘A’ game and see good results,” Murdy said.

Roncalli, which played three times this week, will continue its busy start to the season with a tournament at Dell Rapids on Monday, before competing in the Northeast Conference Tournament at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lee Park Golf Course.
