SIOUX FALLS – Aberdeen Central battled third-seeded Sioux Falls Washington to even terms for the first two innings before the Warriors took over.
Washington exploded for 11 runs in the third inning and added four more in the fourth for a 15-0 Class AA SoDak 16 softball victory on Wednesday afternoon.
While the Golden Eagles had their season come to an end, the squad played Washington tougher than the first time around.
“Our girls played competitive softball right out of the gates,” said Central coach Cassidy Neer. “We definitely had a great run and I could not be more proud to see us take strides against a team that beat us pretty good early this spring.”
Washington broke out the bats in a big way during the third inning. Isabel Carda and Tajsia Herron hit back-to-back three-run home runs to account for a big share of the damage. Emma Hensley drove in a pair with a double, before Carda hit her second home run of the inning, driving in two more.
Natalie Thompson ended the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out two-run single.
Central, which had a runner in scoring position in the top of the third before Washington’s outburst, received hits from Ayrlie Waldo and Alivia Roettele.
The Golden Eagles concluded the year at 4-15.
“We continued to peak throughout the year,” Neer said, “and the fight the girls put up today was one I am proud of.”
